The NHS COVID-19 app is designed to work with the official NHS QR codes only. The app will not recognise other QR codes.

Official QR code posters:

  • display the NHS Test and Trace or the NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect logo

  • do not display any website URLs or direct you to a website when scanned

There are 4 types of NHS QR code poster.

  1. A poster for hospitality venues in England (new design from March 2021).

  2. A poster for other venues in England (in place since August 2020).

  3. A bilingual poster for venues that are classed as 'higher risk' in Wales (new design from May 2021).

  4. A bilingual poster for other venues in Wales, which is bilingual (in place since August 2020).

This is the poster for hospitality venues in England. Visitors to these venues must check in with the app, or provide their contact details directly to the venue, to enter. Some hospitality venues may have an older version of the poster, as this design is new for March 2021. The older version will still work.

This is the poster for other venues in England. This design was introduced in August 2020.

This is the poster for 'higher risk' venues in Wales, which includes:

  • restaurants and cafes

  • pubs and bars

  • personal care venues

  • sports facilities

It is for venues that must legally collect visitors' contact details given directly to the venue. Visitors are encouraged to scan the QR code when checking in.
