The NHS Test and Trace and NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect services help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) by contacting people who test positive to find out who they have been in contact with. This could include household members and people who they’ve been in direct face-to-face contact with.

The app supports these programmes, making it easy to warn people who may not know they have been in contact with someone who has since tested positive for coronavirus. For example, someone they sat next to on a bus.

Regular contact tracing and automatic contact tracing can both be used to let people know when they have spent time with someone who has coronavirus, and give them advice on what to do next. For example, to self-isolate to reduce the spread of the virus. This will help save lives and protect the NHS.
