The NHS COVID-19 app is no longer in use and the Isle of Wight trial has now ended. This is archived information from 18 June 2020. If you still have the app, please uninstall it.
In April 2020, we tested the app on an RAF base, which has shown the app works and the public can be confident in its use. The app runs in the background on both iOS and Android and users will not be required to have it running in the foreground – this means the app can run when people are not using it, when using other apps, or if their phone is locked.
Like all new apps, there may be issues for a small number of users, which is why the Isle of Wight rollout phase is underway. We’ll learn from the Isle of Wight phase and continue to make adaptations to improve the app.
